The Beauty of Gratitude: How to Find Peace in Life’s Simple Moments

A feeling of gratefulness fills my heart as I wake up this morning.  It is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, and my mind is at peace.  A quiet moment of appreciation settles into my awareness as I take in my surroundings.  There is nothing to focus on but a cup of coffee as I relax before a busy day of errands, followed by a blessed family gathering.

A Canadian Thanksgiving Long Weekend is Celebrated Every October

All my adult life, I have cherished the joy of belonging to such a wonderful extended family.  I love mingling with the adults, exchanging jabs of humour and reminiscing about stories from the past.  Then there is my greatest treasure—watching the little ones, with their innocence and wonder, play and explore as they become the centre of my attention.  Their giggles, insights about the world, and endless curiosity draw me into a realm of utter peace. When I give my attention to their vibrancy and playfulness, my heart falls into a rhythm of tranquillity.

The storms of life can be brutal, and the lessons can seem never-ending.  However, if you clear your mind for just a few moments, you allow the beauty of life to seep into your awareness.  Gratitude has helped me overcome many difficult circumstances in my life, and the world around me guides me towards a place of stillness where I can feel the subtle shift in my energy field.

As you prepare for your Thanksgiving celebrations this weekend, remember to take a moment for yourself.  Bask in the stillness of the day whenever you can find a few quiet minutes to appreciate the blessings in your life.  Rest assured that, if you take the time to reflect, you will discover a wealth of things to be grateful for—people you cherish, memories you hold dear, perhaps your health or the beauty of your surroundings.  These are things another person might see as true wealth.

You already have so much to appreciate, and sometimes, the simplest reminder is the most profound: you have what you need in this very moment, as air fills your lungs and you take another breath.
